COURSE OVERVIEW
Electrostatic charging is mainly caused by the mechanical friction between two surfaces and can lead to attraction or repulsion effects, as well as to sudden electrical discharge. Materials with high electric resistance, such as plastics or textiles, are affected by static charging as they are inherently electrical insulators. Therefore, antistatic products are used to avoid this unpleasant property. Electrostatic charging of textiles does not only occur during the production of textiles, but can also be unpleasant to the end textile-user.
The focus of this course will be on the following topics:
- Definition of static charge
- Mechanism of antistatic finishes
- Types of antistatic finish: durable and non-durable antistatic finishes
- Application areas of antistatic finishes
- Importance of antistatic finishes
- DyStar antistatic solutions
- Test method and evaluation of antistatic finishes
