Masil SF 500 is a polydimethylsiloxane fluid with a viscosity designated within the product name. It is commonly referred to as Dimethyl fluid or Dimethicone.
Dimethyl fluids from 5 to 5,000 cSt are used as fiber and thread lubricants, mechanical lubricants, mold release agents, calendar lubricants, and anti-blocking treatments in paper manufacture. They are also excellent lubricants for rubber and plastic parts. Dimethyl fluids in this viscosity range are also used in automobile and furniture polishes, protective hand creams and lotions, dielectric and damping media, fluid drives, calibration baths, sonar transducers, and as defoamers in many applications. Higher viscosities from 5,000 to 100,000 cSt can be used as release agents for plastic and rubber parts, antifoams for nonaqueous petroleum processes, and as lubricants in tablet manufacture.
